The Chicago Bears are once again considering Arlington Heights as a potential site for their new stadium, revisiting plans that had previously been set aside. This renewed interest comes after earlier proposals for a domed stadium near Soldier Field in downtown Chicago stalled due to a lack of public funding support from state officials.
The Bears own the former Arlington Park Racetrack and are currently conducting viability studies for developing the site. This move suggests a possible shift towards a privately funded project, especially since other proposals, including one from Indiana, do not offer guaranteed public financing.
Arlington Heights’ newly elected mayor, Jim Tinaglia, is actively advocating for the stadium deal. Tinaglia, a longtime resident and architect who owns Tinaglia Architects, Inc., was elected on April 1 and is set to be sworn in on May 7. He has expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the Bears to bring the stadium to Arlington Heights.
The Bears’ decision is expected soon, as they aim to break ground on the new stadium by this summer. The choice between downtown Chicago and Arlington Heights will significantly impact the team’s future and the surrounding communities.
