Martin Bauer Talks Transparency and Local Priorities in Zoom Meeting

Arlington Heights – Trustee candidate Martin Bauer recently participated in a Zoom meeting on February 5, engaging in an open discussion that spanned various topics, including local governance, police accountability, and his political affiliations. Throughout the conversation, Bauer underscored his commitment to transparency and a service-oriented approach to leadership.

The discussion opened with Bauer emphasizing his openness to resident feedback. “I consider myself to be transparent,” he stated, acknowledging the crucial role of accessibility in local government. However, he also addressed the challenges of handling negative or false online comments, particularly those that delve into personal or politically sensitive matters.

One such instance arose when a Facebook user inquired whether Bauer and his wife were still “ultra-conservative.” While Bauer did not engage directly on social media to clarify his political views, he described himself as an independent voter, one who supports candidates based on merit rather than party affiliation. “I vote based on the person rather than a straight ticket,” he explained, reiterating that his focus is on local issues, not national political divisions.

I reached out to Jen Taylor to ask how she knows Martin Baur, and she replied that their children attended school together and that his wife previously ran for the D214 school board.

The conversation turned to police accountability, prompted by my personal experience involving a traffic accident. After the crash, I felt that the responding officer mishandled the situation, showing bias in the initial investigation. Thanks to dashcam footage, the ticket I received was dismissed, and the other driver was ultimately cited for failure to stop. However, my complaint was not aimed at the officer who mishandled the accident, but rather at the supervising officer who escalated the situation.

When asked whether there should be a review of disciplinary matters within the police department, Bauer responded, “Absolutely. Like I said, I don’t know what that looks like internally right now within the police department. I do know that the board oversees the entire operations. One of the things I want to add to the board is to ask the tough questions.” He emphasized the need for greater oversight and a transparent approach to addressing residents’ concerns.

As for his priorities in Arlington Heights, Bauer identified infrastructure maintenance, responsible development, and housing as key areas requiring attention.

Closing the conversation, Bauer reaffirmed his dedication to transparent, service-oriented governance. “I want decisions to be conscious and deliberate,” he said, stressing the importance of making thoughtful, community-focused choices.

With the Trustee race intensifying, Bauer’s focus on local issues and his willingness to engage with the community may resonate with voters seeking a leader committed to accountability and transparency in Arlington Heights. Notably, Bauer is the only other candidate in the race besides Trustee Jim Bertucci, who has also been responsive to my inquiries.

    1. Hey Jennifer,
I wanted to address your comment made in the Arlington Heights News and Comment Facebook group, which is public. Since the group is public, I didn’t need permission to use it. In public settings, there are no expectations of privacy, and I didn’t anticipate this would be a concern or issue.

Let me know if you have any questions.
